The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is expected to take a big step back in 2018. Patrick Mahomes, the team’s second-year quarterback, will be without his favorite target from last year.
The when was patrick mahomes born is a question that has been asked many times. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense just received another dose of troubling preseason news.
When rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire came on the scene in 2024, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs had big hopes.
The LSU product shined at moments, demonstrating why the Chiefs picked him 32nd overall last year. The Chiefs, on the other hand, may have to swiftly forsake their expectations for Edwards-Helaire in favor of fears and skepticism.

Aside from the cliché that preseason games are pointless, the danger of injury has been a major argument against clubs playing their starters in the preseason. Jordy Nelson, a long-time Packers receiver who tore his ACL in the summer of 2015, can testify to that.
Each of the Chiefs’ first two preseason games featured their starting lineup. That means Edwards-Helaire, who is expected to be the team’s leading back this season, had to carry the ball and hit his blocks.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, Mahomes did not sustain any major injuries during those games. Edwards-Helaire, who sustained a right ankle injury in a 17-10 win against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 20, cannot say the same.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told ProFootballTalk that the club is hopeful about the rookie running back’s health.
“It doesn’t seem to be a high-ankle sprain, which is usually a plus, but they’ll double-check.”

Before exiting the game, Edwards-Helaire had three carries for 13 yards and one grab for 10 yards.
Edwards-durability Helaire’s should already be a worry for the Chiefs.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is said to have sprained his inner (medial) ankle, similar to Michael Thomas last season.

Reid can’t be blamed for being overconfident in Edwards-prognosis. Helaire’s Having said that, we’re leaning in a different path.
With hip and ankle ailments, Edwards-Helaire missed three games at the conclusion of the season, including the AFC Divisional Round. In the AFC Championship Game, he returned but only gained seven yards on six runs against the Buffalo Bills.
Running backs’ lower-body ailments, such as hip and ankle issues, may last a long time. These are the illnesses that may drain a young player’s efficiency and capacity to be a lead back over time.
Keep in mind that most running backs have a limited shelf life. The outliers are Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore, but both are expected to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so they’re not the greatest comparable.
Even if Edwards-Helaire is healthy enough to start against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, there’s no assurance he’ll be a game-changer at running back. These injuries will eventually catch up to him, and that moment may come sooner rather than later.
The Chiefs’ offense has already suffered a plague of preseason ailments.
Coach Reid said Rashad Fenton won’t play tonight due to a hamstring issue. Darrel Williams is in the concussion protocol, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire has an ankle issue.
Tyreek Hill’s hamstring stiffened up in the days before up to the game, so Coach decided not to play him.

At an inopportune moment for Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense, injuries are piling up.
Even if Edwards-Helaire is eligible to play on Sept. 12, Darrel Williams, another running back, may not be. After facing the Cardinals, Williams, who had a breakout postseason with 130 yards rushing in the AFC Playoffs, was placed in the concussion protocol.
Tyreek Hill, the Cardinals’ All-Pro receiver, was unable to play due to a hamstring injury. Hill’s most valuable attribute is his speed, thus any hamstring or leg injury should be a major worry. The Chiefs have not ruled Hill out for Week 1 as of publishing.
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, the Chiefs’ right guard, fractured a bone in his palm during practice earlier this season. Even if Duvernay-Tardif is able to play in the opener, the Chiefs are likely to start Trey Smith, a sixth-round rookie out of Tennessee.
If there’s any good news for the Chiefs, it’s that Mahomes is healthy and ready to play. For the sake of everyone’s sake, let’s hope that one phrase doesn’t jinx the All-Pro quarterback.
