The NBA Hall of Fame inducted former Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets player Paul Pierce on Friday, and he used his speech to fire a shot at players who “manufacture” superteams.

With an outstanding record, Paul Pierce was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2024. More over 26,000 points in his career, an NBA title, an NBA Finals MVP, and four All-NBA choices. Pierce spent 15 of his 19 seasons with the Boston Celtics, with whom he spent the most of his career. During his peak, he spent many seasons as a member of a so-called superteam.
In 2007, Pierce was joined in Boston by Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, and the combination produced a championship almost immediately. With Allen departing as a free agent in 2012, they only had a short window to work with. A year later, Pierce and Garnett were traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Despite the fact that Pierce benefitted from a superteam, he is eager to point out how his version differs from others.
Before Allen and Garnett came, Paul Pierce was a well-known player.
For nine seasons, Paul Pierce was the on-court captain for the Boston Celtics, and he enjoyed some success. Boston made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2002, but that was the pinnacle of their success. With 24 wins by 2007, the Celtics were a lottery club. Danny Ainge, the team’s general manager, orchestrated two major transactions over the summer. On draft night, Ainge dealt Jeff Green’s rights to the Seattle SuperSonics for Allen and the rights to LSU big man Glen “Big Baby” Davis, along with Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, and a 2008 second-round choice.
The Three Amigos Celtics put the final touches on the project at the end of July 2007. For Garnett, a former NBA MVP who renounced his no-trade clause to join the Cs, Boston traded five players and two 2009 first-round choices to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
That chain of events, according to Pierce, is what separates the Celtics’ mini-dynasty from the superteams to come.

“People will claim I was a member of the New Era Superteam, but we had to be lucky,” Pierce said. “We were fortunate with the draft selection, the deal, and Kevin Garnett’s decision to waive his no-trade clause.
“So all of these things had to line together, but nowadays, players manufacture playing with each other, forming superteams via free agency, and forming friendships. And I have no objections to it. That is why I am proud of having spent so much time with the same squad, going through the ups and downs, and ultimately being able to win a title. My only regret is that I didn’t win the second one.”

Paul Pierce’s tumultuous time at ESPN came to an end in April 2024. He was fired from the network after a video emerged on social media that seemed to show him using marijuana while hanging out with scantily dressed women. He seems to be relieved to be gone.
Pierce is working on a podcast alongside Garnett, according to Sports Illustrated. Pierce also wants to collaborate on a travel program with his former Boston Celtics colleague.
Pierce said, “Just doing everything the s*** we couldn’t do while we were playing.” “Skydiving. Perhaps a bullfight in Spain. Get some bikes and go exploring. Experiment with various cultures and cuisines. That would be fantastic.”
He’s also creating his own marijuana brand, Truth, and collaborating with SelfiePop, an online influencer network.
Paul Pierce, at 43, is happy in his retirement and enjoying life. And why wouldn’t he be inducted into the Hall of Fame after achieving the pinnacle of a basketball player’s career?
